Sidechaining & Pin Configuration

I’m trying to sidechain some things for a synthwave song, and I’ve figured out enough to know that I need to use the “Pin Configuration” screen, as seen in the manual. I found the Calf Sidechain Compressor plugin, and it clearly needs me to use that Pin Configuration screen. Problem is, the context menus of the mixer strip and each plugin don’t have anything to do with Strict I/O or the Pin Configuration screen, so I can’t access any of these options. Is that manual outdated? If so, how do I modify where the pins go in the mixer strip? I’m running 4.7 on Arch Linux.

The HTML tag I put in for the link appears to be not working. Here’s the URL to the manual page I’m talking about: http://manual.ardour.org/signal-routing/signal-flow/

You’re reading material in the manual that applies onto to 5.x, which has not yet been released. You cannot do what you want with Ardour 4.x …

If you want to try it out, nightly builds contain the functionality that is described, but we do not yet consider 5.x to be ready for use on any sessions that you really need.

Oh. Is there a way to use anything like the Calf Sidechain Compressor plugin on 4.x? Or do any sort of sidechaining at all? I tried following what was probably an outdated guide on sidechaining, and it was having me create a Bus with 3 inputs and 2 outputs, but my copy of Ardour seemed very adamant that the amounts of inputs and outputs match.

In the meantime, I’m doing it manually with automation (lowpass & compressor), this would be nice to know the next time I try (if the next time I try is before 5.x comes out).
