Ubuntu Studio start up

downloaded 5.12 (32 bit).
Installed and an icon dutifully appeared. I click the icon, select file, name or project, window pops up with alsa selected but “stopped” to the right. If I select start, screen goes away and…nothing.
If I use the pull down and select jack, it says jack is already running and do I want to connect using jack. If I do, same thing. screen goes away and nothing.
Am I missing someting obvious?

Do you know how to start it from a Terminal ? If so, please do so, and collect any output that appears there.

Honestly dragging back memories from AIX days and not even finding the .exe file for Ardour. Just find the desktop

Open a terminal. Type: /opt/Ardour-<VERSION>/bin/ardour5 editing the <VERSION> part to reflect what’s actually on your system.

OK, it loaded the startup screen for Ardour, then I selected the file to save it to and name, window came up as usual saying alsa was selected but “stopped”, clicked “start” and then in the terminal window the following came up

<*** Error in ‘/opt/Ardour-5.12.0/bin/ardour-5.12.0’: free(): invalid pointer: 0x09d891fc ***>
Aborted (core dumped)

any help on the error?

could be many things, but the next step is to get a debuggable version from http://community.ardour.org/files/Ardour-5.12.0-dbg-x86_64.run and then follow the instructions at http://ardour.org/debugging_ardour
