Downloading For Linux

Linux

If you are using a "major" Linux distribution (e.g Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian, SuSe, Gentoo, Slackware etc.), then some version of Ardour is almost certainly available directly from your distribution. It can be installed using the normal software installation tools for your distribution. The name of this tool varies according to the distribution. If you do not know how to use these tools, then you should seek advice from a website or forum focused on your Linux distribution.

Most distributions do provide the very latest version of Ardour for weeks or even months after we release it. Some have additional repositories of software that contain newer versions, but this varies greatly depending on which distribution you use. Again, you will need to seek advice from a website or forum focused on your distribution. If the latest version is not available from your distribution, then the only way to get it is to build it from source. We do not recommend this process for people who have not done this before, but we do provide full instructions if you wish to do this.
