Using a Presonus Faderport with Ardour in Linux

Has any one tried or successfully set up a Presonus Faderport in Linux to work with Ardour

I am also looking for information on how to use the presonus faderport with ardour. For those that don’t know what it is here is the product page from presonus with the technical specs:

http://www.presonus.com/products/Detail.aspx?ProductID=2

It is a USB Midi control surface that is pretty affordable for a low budget home studio user.

I also noticed a user on this post: http://ardour.org/node/2241

states that:

“all surfaces that generate MIDI CC’s can be used to control plugins.”

So this makes me think that the faderport should work with ardour with the right amount of tweaking.

Ok here is what I have got so far. It’s not working yet but it is detected.

Plug in the device and do a dmesg:

dmesg

-truncated-
usb 6-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
usb 6-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usbcore: registered new interface driver snd-usb-audio

Then I start ardour and create a new session with 1 track.

Then I open qjackctl and do the following:

Click add for outputs and choose

First One: (FaderPort Output)
type = ALSA
Client = FaderPort (Yah its actually listed!)
Plug = FaderPort MIDI 1

Second One: (Ardour Control)

Type = Alsa
Client = ardour
Plug = control

For Inputs I add the following:

First One: (FaderPort Input)
type = Alsa
Client = FaderPort
Plug = FaderPort MIDI 1

Second One: (Ardour Control)

Type = Alsa
Client = ardour
Plug = control

Then I connect the output of the faderport to the input of ardour control and the output of ardour control to the input of the faderport.

But …

Nothing seems to happen in ardour when I try to use the faderport control surface. I know I must be missing some steps.

It will work, indeed: “all surfaces that generate MIDI CC’s can be used to control plugins.”
It’s just a plain usb midi device.

I thought we clarified this on IRC?
