Free Tambourine Samples with SFZ Mapping

Hi all,

I recently came across a great set of free tambourine samples from Real Feel Samples (you can hear a demo on the page):

I’ve put together an SFZ mapping for it, which you can download here:

Just put it in the “Reactor Tambourine Samples” folder along with the samples.

There are 4 (but in practice, 3) articulations: accent, “backstroke” from an accent, downstroke, and upstroke. They’re mapped to MIDI notes 60, 61, 62, and 63 respectively. Additionally, there are five tambourine rolls of slightly varying length and volume, mapped to MIDI notes 55-59. There are 8 evenly-spaced velocity layers (except on the rolls), and 3 round robins for the down and up strokes. The samples are 16-bit 44.1kHz WAVs.

A simple 8th note pattern with a heavy accent on 1 and small accents on the downbeats might be programmed as |: 60 61 62 63 62 63 62 63 :|.

I’ve tested the SFZ file with Plouge Sfortzando. It should also work with LinuxSampler 2.0.0.svn1 or greater (LinuxSampler versions less than that don’t have my patch to support the SFZ <master> header). If anyone really needs it, it isn’t too hard to make it compatible with earlier versions by removing the <master> and adding its opcodes directly to all the <group>s.

Here’s the “license” included with the samples:
