Well, I'm running 10.4.8

I installed X11 from the DVD.

I configured Jack so the output is my Mac Pro's digital out. 44.1 KHz sample rate.

I launched JackPilot and hit "Start" in the little window.

I launched X11, then launched Ardour.

Nothing happened... Ardour crashes immediately. I tried re-installing Ardour and X11 to no avail. Replaired permissions, etc. Still nothing, so here's the Console output; first, the Console log after starting X11:

----------------------
XFree86 Version 4.4.0 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600)
_XSERVTransmkdir: Owner of /tmp/.X11-unix should be set to root
[DRI] screen 0 installation complete
Screen 0 added: 1600x1024 @ (0,0)
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/, removing from list!
Dec 11 05:48:12 Mac-Pro crashdump[984]: xterm crashed

-----------------------

And now, after starting Ardour:

-----------------------
bash: no job control in this shell
2007-12-11 05:49:36.040 defaults[1011]
The domain/default pair of (.GlobalPreferences, AppleCollationOrder) does not exist
dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/X11R6/lib/libSM.6.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/Ardour2.app/Contents/Resources/bin/ardour
Reason: no suitable image found. Did find:
/usr/X11R6/lib/libSM.6.dylib: mach-o, but wrong architecture
Dec 11 05:49:36 Mac-Pro crashdump[1019]: ardour crashed
----------------------

So it looks as though X11 ain't happenin' right, either. I've installed it twice from the DVD, and repaired permissions. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any assistance....

You know, I think I may have found the solution, as stated here:

http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-62722.html

In other words, I think I may have installed the PowerPC version of X11 rather than the Intel version. I am on a Mac Pro, after all.

Anyone know where I can get an Intel-compatible version? I'd have thought it would've been on my Tiger DVD, but I think my install DVD may have been made pre-Intel. Or something.

Bingo! X11 v1.1.3 did it!

All I had to do was go here:

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/x11update2006113.html

...and download the X11 update to version 1.1.3.

Maybe this will help someone with an Intel mac...
