muted tracks recording onto non-muted track

Hi,

I’m using the latest Ardour on a windows desktop with a babyface pro AI with TotalMixFx.

I’m having a problem recording multiple tracks which I want to end up layering together.

The problem is that every track recorded on a certain input, such as Analog 1, records automatically onto any new track using the same input which I am trying to create. In other words, every track on analog 1 records onto subsequent tracks, regardless of whether or not they are muted. If they ARE muted, I can’t hear them while monitoring (while recording), but playback reveals they have recorded onto the new track (they can also be seen playing in their respective level meters).

I don’t have an unlimited number of inputs. Only 2 analog and a couple asio.

Can anybody help me out?
Surely I am missing something obvious here…!

I’m not sure I understand the question, but if I’ve understood correctly, you have input 1 assigned to several tracks and whenever you record, it records on all of those tracks when you only wanted to record on one of them.
You need to use the red record enable button (not the mute!) on each track to control whether it records or not.
