Audio Analysis Tools

Hello,
I just read suggestions for new features in future Ardour and many of them will help a lot.
For me would be most demanding some nice well working Audio Analysis Tool, which should content Peak and RMS metering(with optional responsing time),Spectral analysis and Phase checker(osciloscop) at least.
Maybe I am wrong but I think there is not such tool in Linux Audio world.
Inspiration for such tool can be great DigiCheck utility from RME audio… (Windows)

Maybe one other small but nice feature wich can be part of such tool…
Button for quick switching between stereo and mono mode.
Very good for checking mono compatability of audio source.

If you need spectral analysis you can build Ardour with the FFT_ANALYSIS=1 option, although this isn’t real-time. Sonic Visualiser (http://www.sonicvisualiser.org/) and Baudline (http://www.baudline.com/) would be worth a look.
I really like JAPA (http://www.kokkinizita.net/linuxaudio/), as it is so flexible and simple. I tend to have this running all the time.
Finally, Meterbridge (http://plugin.org.uk/meterbridge/) has a goniometer for phase checking; use “meterbridge -t jf x x” in a terminal and set up a stereo send on your master track in Ardour.

As far as RMS metering goes I don’t know of anything; I would personally love something simple like the RMS Buddy (http://destroyfx.smartelectronix.com/docs/rms-buddy.html).

I know you’re suggesting things to be added to Ardour, but we already have lots of great tools!

You are right, but I was looking for this tools by myself and I found nothing.
Thanks a lot for these links. You helped me a lot…
I will try them all as soon as possible

I just read about Adobe Audition 3 in “Camcorder and ComputerVideo” (April 2008, p46) they included a healing brush (like photoshops) for editing frequencies out of a spectrum. I though something like that would be a great addition. Sometimes you get those pesky sounds you just can’t EQ out.

I checked links mattb offered…
JAPA is very nice tool and meterbridge works well…
But still I think that would be nice to have such tools like part of Ardour…
Like a plug-in… not so much overusing Jack…
Things can be better arranged by this way.

PS: RMS Buddy is VST and I am able to compile it
PSS: Anyway I like the Ardour a lot…

Voxengo SPAN (http://www.voxengo.com/product/span/) might be useful for this, too.

(spam filter picked this up. I think the spam filter is cranked up too high.)
