hallo, this is not an ardour question, but as i see there are some clever people compiling alsa them self here around, i ll try it here.
last time i compiled alsa (v1.0.14) i used this configure line:

./configure --with-isapnp=no --with-sequencer=yes
--with-oss=yes --with-pcm-oss-plugins=yes
--with-cards=virmidi,seq-dummy,hdsp,intel8x0,usb-audio
--with-card-options=seq-rtctimer-default,
support-old-api,ac97-power-save

now, that i will compile alsa-1.0.16 for being able to run newer kernels with multiface, i would like to know what do you think about this options:
--with-sequencer=yes ?
--with-oss=yes ?
--with-pcm-oss-plugins=yes ?
--with-cards=virmidi,seq-dummy ?
--with-card-options=seq-rtctimer-default ?

especially the last option listed i am not sure about.

is there another option someone would recommend to include here??

cheers,
doc
