Ardour and Jack not working

Im completly new to ardour and ubuntu (have only been using it since thursday)

ardour and jack started off working fine, no problems at all, but today they stopped working:

jack would not start and showed the message :

Could not connect to JACK server as client.

  • Overall operation failed.
  • Unable to connect to server.
Please check the messages window for more info.

and the messages window shows:

If i try to just open ardour it says:

Ardour could not start Jack

There are several possible reasons:

  1. You requested audio parameters that are not supported…
  2. JACK is running as another user.

Please consider the possibilities, and perhaps try different parameters.

any ideas what the problem is? id be very grateful for help.

P.s. if it is useful i am using a USB behringer sound card

thanks a lot

UPDATE:

its working now but i have to open ardour before jack can work

and also

ardour moves my recordings to the time at the end of recording, i.e. if i start recording at the begining (00:00:00:00) for 13secs it moves the start of recording to 00:00:13:00 and does not let me move the recording back to where it should be, this is a particular problem when trying to do punch in recording or even just multi tracking

if anyone knows how to solve it, help would be much appreciated.

thanks

and its stopped working again :frowning:

anyone, please help??

your edit mode is “splice” or “lock”, not “slide”. Set it to “slide” (edit mode is a button in the main editor canvas, next to the tool bar). This should fix your track regions.

As to jack, I don’t enough about your setup. Usually, I have jack started before anything, I do not let any client start jack on their own. Get this part working and it will save you from further trouble later.

thankss  that sorted it out and for somereason jack just started working again
