what system and computer are you using this on?

From the looks of it, X11 isn’t started (or starting). I’m assuming you have installed X11.app (if you haven’t, there are different ways to do this depending on your system). If you have, open X11, and try double clicking the Ardour.app icon again. If that doesn’t work, please post back with what you are doing and what actions you see in the Finder / Dock.
