I've read somewhere in this forum that you can't (or it's too hard) to compile Ardour under Snow Leopard. If you compile Leopard, can you run the binary on Snow Leopard? If not, how does the Ardour team compile the MacOS binary?
The binary is compiled to be compatible with all versions of OS X from 10.4 on. So the same binary runs fine on Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard.
And yes compiling on Snow Leopard, while not impossible, would require significant amounts of work even above the already not insignificant process of compiling on OS X in general.
and to complete seablade's answer, we build ardour for OS X on a machine running Tiger.
