2 M-Audio Delta 1010 (Rack) & 1 Creative doesn't work

Well

Hi evryone… I was a “kinda happy man” for 'bout 24 hours when my HomeStudio config worked quite actually

  • LINUX Ubuntu 10.10
  • 2 M-Audio Delta 1010 (Rack) [SoundCard]
  • 1 Creative [SoundCard]
  • Ardour

but in the NEXT DAY the JACK thing didn’t recognize the sound cards no more…
so… what am I suppose to do ??? I kinda “live the dream” and know what ???

please help me out to make it work again…

Ok… I can do it… but let me find out where it is first…
thanx for your support !!!
I will post the error message since I find it …
once again thanx for your support I appreciate it

The “JACK thing” is Jack Audio Server or qjackctl gui frontend?

Can you post any error messages? Are you running jack from terminal or with gui frontend qjackctl (which is advisable), but they both post error messages.

[I don’t know why, but my original reply seems to have been submitted twice - sorry for the finger trouble]

I found this messege

It may be premature of me to say so, but everything I’ve read on this subject [and I haven’t actually /tried/ multiple 1010s myself - I’m planning to get a second 1010LT soon, though] suggests that you’d be more likely to succeed if the 1010s were the only soundcards in the system - either take out the soundblaster, or disable it in the BIOS if it’s built in. Once you get it working that way, you could then try adding it back if you really need it as well.
Just a suggestion…

Thanx for the warning man… no prob 'bout send it TWICE…
thanx once again…

Well… I find ANOTHER… see if it was what you asked me for…

The most common cause of problems in multiple soundcard setups that work ok one day and then mysteriously fail to work the next (assuming no updates or config changes in between) is the ‘interesting’ way that soundcards can get arbitrarily assigned IDs on boot up, so hw0 may be your 1010 interface some times and your creative card the next. This confuses your jack config since jack is now trying to use the wrong soundcard. There is a workaround which fixes the cards to IDs but unfortunately I don’t have the information to hand at the moment…

the best solution to card confusion, assuming that it doesn’t involve two of the same kinds of device, is:

  1. cat /proc/asound/cards
  2. note the name shown within the square brackets
  3. use hw:CARDNAME where cardname is that name within the square brackets

So for example, on my main office system, hw:HDSP refers to the RME HDSP device and hw:SB refers to the builtin HDA device.
