Ardour seems corrupted - newbie question

I have installed Ubuntu 6.06 and Ardour and am very new to both. Ardour worked for the first few hours but now when I open it I can’t load files or create a new file.

The error message usually is “can’t create transport thread” but sometimes there is just an empty error box that pops up.

I have tried removing the package and re-installing it both nothing works and I am pulling my hair out at this stage.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you change anything in ardour, jack or your system?

I’m not too much into it, but is jack configured properly?
Maybe you can tell us your version of jack, ardour and the preferences of both.
