Use PC keyboard for MIDI input

How do I use my computer keyboard to input Midi notes in Ardour 3.1? I don’t have my M-Audio midi input device where I’m currently living, and I want to compose music in the midi editor using computer keyboard keys as input. Do I have to map each key separately? Or is there a PC keyboard input mode for this?

Install “JACK Keyboard” on your computer.

The kbd bindings are not currently documented, but the exist in a text file whose name I currently forget. They are modelled (like the rest of the step entry dialog) on Logic.
