I just noticed that the latest EQ10Q-release contains a gate which seems to have sidechain capabilitiy. Will try it soon… 
You could use the infamous envelope follower in the strip you want to control the signal, and have it’s midi out control the gain of a simple amplifier plugin put into your signal. This is technically expansion, but often its effective without the gating effects. If you set the saturation point low enough it will make it behave more like a gate. (Make sure you have the control signal be a midi+audio type track!)
