getting started

sorry, i’m sure this question has been asked, but being an EXTREME newbie to the sound world i have to ask it in my own terms.

i would like to be able to hook up a few mics (maybe 5) and plugin a synth or two to my computer and record them to the hard drive at the same time. i would also like to be able to mix them on the computer and send them out to an amp live.

the forums seemed to say that i could do this with a M-Audio Delta 1010. is this true? i went to their site and through my eyes of inexperience i basically said wow and didn’t really understand it all. grin.

if this device is a good one per my needs, does ardour/jack/alsa/linux fully support it?

thanx for the patience.

Yes.

If you plan on using mics though, you will need to purchase some pre-amps as well.

The delta 1010 is a very good PCI soundcard for use in Linux and with Ardour.

thank you so much for the advice. when it happens (hopefully shortly), i’m sure you’ll be hearing from me.
